Flatbottom V-Drive
1958 Blown Cadillac-Rebuilt
Hall – Craft V-Drive and running gear
This boat was built by David Meyers out of Visalia California. Dave is
still in business today building record holding top fuel drag
boats. He built this boat for a customer who wanted to show
it in the Fresno Auto-rama then use it as a family ski boat. The boat is a
true wood built boat. The only thing fiberglass is the outside of the lower
hull. The inside supports, stringers and deck are either mahogany or poplar
woods. All the wood has been stripped and treated with West Systems epoxy
saturation method. The outside of the hull has been stripped, blocked
Street Rod straight and primed with DP40 awaiting final color to be applied.
This boat is straight as a string. No waves and distortions like most
hulls. The motor was rebuilt by the president of the Classic V-Drive Club of
America and locally well known engine builder Brian Lynch. The original
builder of the boat had the engine shaved of all casting marks, so we again
finished the entire motor to a high gloss super smooth shine. Just like it
was Back In The Day. The 471 Blower is period correct and is not pushing
huge boost (around 5 to 7 lbs) so the boat is fast but as reliable as a
non-blown engine. The air cleaner, although I don’t think all that great
looking, is an engineering masterpiece. It is hand formed out of one piece
of steel and as you can see from the pictures, four round corners have been
messaged into it. It is amazing if you like one of kind custom parts; and
appreciate the talent it must have taken to build. The motor is turn key
and ready to run. We had Joe Hunt Magnetos rebuild the mag ($600 worth)
because it is the same mag he built for the boat in 1965. We wanted
everything as it was. Many other custom items I can tell you about over the
phone if you have interest. We are selling the boat because neither my
Father nor I have the time to finish the project and we hate having it just
sit around unused. We have store it in my finished garage for the past few
years in hopes of getting it done and I just don’t think we will live long
enough to get to it. Someone else should have the pleasure of completing
this beautiful boat and enjoying it. We are only asking the amount we
actually invested in the project with no account for labor or supplies.
Just the boat, engine, motor rebuild and ignition rebuild are accounted
for. Also, the boat does come with a great trailer. We were in the process
of stripping it down for final paint as well, so it will need to be
finished, but it is really a cool trailer. Call or e-mail for more info and
thanks for reading.
